Fortnite keeps switching to keyboard prompts while you use a controller.
Changing button icons are evidence that Fortnite is receiving another input source. The cause can be as simple as a moving mouse or as hidden as a remapper that outputs mouse movement when a controller button is pressed.
Verify the symptom before changing settings
Leave the controller still and watch the prompts. Then move only the right stick. If controller icons appear and immediately switch back to keyboard icons without touching the mouse, another process is likely producing keyboard or mouse input.
This is different from ordinary menu navigation. Capture a short recording so you can compare each test without relying on memory.
Remove the obvious sources first
- 1.Place the mouse on a stable surface or disconnect it briefly.
- 2.Close remapping software, macro tools and overlays.
- 3.Disable unnecessary launcher-level controller translation for this test.
- 4.Restart Fortnite and verify that prompts remain on controller during camera movement and firing.
Check what “controller support” actually outputs
Some tools accept a controller button as activation but still move the aim as mouse output. That means the tool is controller-activated, not controller-native. Fortnite can still see the resulting mouse movement and switch input mode.
For a controller-only route, the final correction must remain controller-stick output. Test with the external tool closed and then enabled; the prompt behavior should not change.
Preserve one variable per test
Do not simultaneously change sensitivity, aim-assist strength, deadzone and remapper settings. First stabilize the input type. Then restore the intended Fortnite controller settings and test sensitivity separately.
Epic documents Aim Assist Strength under the controller sensitivity settings. Use the in-game control as the reference point rather than assuming an external program repaired a basic settings problem.
A stable result
The correct outcome is not merely that the controller works. Controller prompts should remain stable, camera movement should respond to one device, and closing an external tool should return the physical controller normally.
Keep diagnosing before adding another tool
If the baseline controller route is not stable, adding software hides the cause. Use the guides first, then read exactly how NeyraX is tested and what it does not claim.
